The Blog is NOT Dead!

So it has been quite some time since I've reviewed any films. Each film is actually a lot of work and requires a good amount of time to find and upload a movie poster. Link to imdb. And come up with something to say. When I get behind it becomes a big challenge to catch up, and this time I fell behind over 40 films before throwing in the towel.

So here is the plan.

The format of the blog will be changing drastically. Instead of posts about each individual film I thought I would post only about films I deemed "worth watching" but then I was afraid when I got behind I would give something a "just average" as to avoid writing about it.

Instead I'll be writing "Monthly Reviews," a single lengthy post sorting all the films I've watched over the month into "Worth Watching", "Just Average", and of course "Avoid Watching." I'm going to write a lot less on the film, so I'm going to assume my readers can find imdb themselves and see who is in it and what is is basically about. The blog will basically a journal of what was good and why.

Expect the first post, a review of the 20 films from November, this week. Another on 23 films from December next week, and 17 from January shortly after. I will probably still writing full reviews on the Oscar short films, my rankings of the best picture nominees before the Oscars air, and my annual top 20 in October.

Oscar Best Picture Rankings

######  NOTE: New film reviews posted below this one!!!  #####

Now that I have seen and reviewed all 10 Best Picture nominees for the year, [the first time I've seen them all before the ceremony], I thought I'd create a quick list with hyperlinks to my reviews of the 10 films. I've ranked them by what I liked the most. I would say Black Swan, 127 Hours, and Winter's Bone are not for everyone. I'm glad that Social Network won the Golden Globe (the award for most entertaining in my book) and that King's Speech is now the favorite for the Oscar (a film that will be remembered for a long time). Inception is still the movie I'd most like to own. Winter's Bone was definitely the weakest overall movie in the group.

1.  Inception (10/10)
2.  The Social Network (10/10)
3.  The King's Speech (9/10)
4.  Toy Story 3 (9/10)
5.  Black Swan (8/10)
6.  The Kids Are Alright (8/10)
7.  127 Hours (8/10)
8.  True Grit (7/10)
9.  The Fighter (7/10)
10. Winter's Bone (6/10)

Introduction

My name is Keith Larsen, I have become an avid movie watcher over the last several years and like to reflect on what I have watched. I have more than a few goals when watching films. There are several movie lists that I am working on, they can be seen here:

http://www.listsofbests.com/person/FrizBTau

All of my films have been rated on a 10 point scale through imdb, you can see all the films I have seen and my ratings here:
http://www.imdb.com/mymovies/list?l=11389878

I use the imdb scale as follows:
10/10 - Worth owning
9/10 - One of the best of the year, highly recommended
8/10 - Quality movie all around, would suggest
7/10 - Good movie but not something I would watch a 2nd time, wouldn't suggest but would tell someone interested to watch it
6/10 - All around average, nothing memorable
5/10 - Not good, would tell people to avoid
4/10 - (1 of 3) Awful acting, awful script/story, awful cinematics
3/10 - (2 of 3) Awful acting, awful script/story, awful cinematics
2/10 - (3 of 3) Awful acting, awful script/story, awful cinematics
1/10 - No redeeming qualities

Rating breakdown as of 10/23/09 (2182 films)
10's: 3%
9's: 6%
8's: 13%
7's: 24%
6's: 25%
5's: 13%
4's: 8%
3's: 4%
2's: 3%
1's: 2%

1 out of 5 films I've seen are worth viewing.
