A film actually completed in 2007, but through an internet publicity stunt gained national recognition. With an estimated budget of $11,000 and grossing $107 million he holds the record for ratio of budget to profit in cinema history.The film is another mockumentary along the lines of The Blair Witch Project released a decade earlier with a similar story of internet buzz to success. Hard to remember that a decade ago watching a movie from a hand-held camera actually disoriented audiences causing people to get sick, but also making them feel like the film had a different sense of realism. After a decade of youtube, webcams, and internet video, mainstream audiences are more used to this style.
So now about the actual film. Katie and Micah are dating and living together, Katie thinks that she is being haunted and Micah decided to videotape their room while they sleep to see if they can capture what is going on. This seems to be aggravating whatever presence is in the house and we get to see just how far it goes. It was a pretty exciting film. The acting was average and the boyfriend was annoying. I liked it but didn't love it. I fear how good the sequel will be...
