Persona: Kinematografi (1966)

For whatever reason my movie lists have led to me watching three Ingmar Bergman lately. This one being the first of those, and probably the best of them.

The movie is about an actress who has a nervous breakdown and makes the conscious decision to never speak again. She is committed and is sent to a beach front home with a nurse to "get better." The nurse starts to have conversations with the lady, who doesn't respond and starts to drive her a bit crazy also.

The film has some twists and you really have to think about what might be going on. The thing I don't understand is the random images that this movie opens up with. It gives it an avant-garde feel then turns out to be a slow film with intense dialogue.

This is no The Seventh Seal or Wild Strawberries, both of which I have 8/10's. Just average for me.

Vote: 6/10
