The Last Laugh: Der letzte Mann (1924)

Director F.W. Murnau is probably better known for his films Nosferatu and Sunrise. This is probably his third most popular film and for me a complete waste of time.

The story is in all simplicity about a doorman that is looked up to until he is forced into retirement. Without his fancy doorman attire he is no longer respected in his community.

Plain and simple, and actually just WAY to simple. I never felt attached to the character, so I didn't care that he got laid off. Then the director wants a happy ending so it by luck strikes it rich. This complete ridiculous tangent makes the director seem like a 5-year-old telling a story. Just not good.

I can't understand why this was so highly acclaimed, avoid it.
