Blacula (1972)

What better time to watch the cheesiest film on the 101 Horror Film list than right after watching the original Dracula. I'm not familiar with any other blaxploitation film, and this one is held in pretty high esteem, so it looked interesting.

The plot is that an African prince goes to Transylvania asking Dracula to help stop the slave trade. He retaliates and turns him into a vampire. Centuries later several homosexual interior decorators purchase a lot of furniture, one piece which happens to be Blacula in his coffin.

Loaded with funky music and big afros this movie is hard to take seriously with bad makeup and acting to boot. William Marshall was actually pretty decent in his leading role, but the rest of the cast make this a bad B movie. It is hard to say much good about this film, it made me laugh, but it more just made me wish it was over for the last 45 minutes of an hour and a half film.
