Starring Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, and Maribel Verdú, and directed by Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men), this Mexican film is a story about teenage sexual exploration.
The film is about two boys and their summer between high school graduation and the beginning of college. Their girlfriends are leaving to tour Europe and they are left to find their own fun. After meeting one of their cousin's wifes that just moved to Mexico from Spain they offer to show her the Ocean. The film then follows the three as they embark to find a beach that was made up to begin with.
The film is very racy and has plenty of sex and nudity that you might be careful just who your audience is when watching. It falls somewhere between a teen comedy and a deep drama with narrated points about the class system and local fishers overtaken by big business. Yet, featuring scenes of the two boys jerking off at a swimming pool.
Definitely a film that I was thinking a lot about when it was over. About survival of friendships & about Ana's situation. I don't think this would be liked by a wide audience and think it is a strong 7/10.
