The American (2010)

This was one of those films were what you expect and what you get are COMPLETELY different. I went into this film expecting a George Clooney action film, instead I got a dramatic look at an aging hired assassin.

The opening scenes have some shooting and you really get that feel that this could be a double agent, Clooney figuring stuff out movie. Instead we get a movie that reminds me of French New Wave, an introverted look at an assassin. We see the precision of his work, and his lack of self worth. The problem is that it is so painfully slow and boring you could care less how it ends.

It is a pity this movie couldn't have been better, compress the plot, add a lot more scenes in between the assignment and conclusion and you have a better film. Or a different film completely. Don't waste your time on this one.
